Authorities: Woman hit person with car during violent domestic argument outside bar

A Libertyville woman is facing charges after striking another woman with a car during a domestic argument outside a Grayslake-area bar, authorities said.

Katrice Brown, 35, of the 1400 block of West Park Avenue, was arrested Thursday night. She is charged with felony counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a motor vehicle and two felony counts of aggravated domestic battery as well as misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police were notified of the confrontation at the C'mon Inn, 34028 N. Route 45, about 6:40 p.m.

Brown and the other woman, a 28-year-old Libertyville resident, had been arguing inside and left the bar, Lake County sheriff's police said in a news release.

After getting in a Chrysler 300 sedan, the younger woman began exiting the passenger's side of the car, police said.

Brown was driving and accelerated, dragging the other woman and then hitting her with the car, police said.

Brown drove away but returned and threatened to shoot the victim, police said.

Witnesses said Brown was armed with a pistol, sheriff's Lt. Chris Covelli said.

Brown ordered the other woman to get back into the car and they drove off, police said.

A short time later, the car was spotted by a Grayslake police officer. Both women were inside.

Sheriff's police stopped the car on Indian Lane, just east of Route 45.

After Brown got out, she initially refused to follow deputies' instructions and she told them to shoot her, police said.

But the deputies spoke with Brown, calmed her and arrested her without further violence, police said.

"This was an incident that could have ended much differently if it were not for our trained, dedicated, and professional staff who worked together to resolve this incident safely for everyone involved," Sheriff John D. Idleburg said in the news release.

A weapon wasn't recovered. Police are searching the area for the gun, Covelli said.

The younger woman was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville and was expected to recover from her injuries, police said.

Brown's bond was set during a hearing Friday at $250,000. She was being held in the Lake County jail and is next scheduled to appear in court June 8.
