Sound check: Rosemont's Rockin' concert series returns

Rosemont's 'Rockin' in the Park'

Rosemont announced the lineup for its free summer concert series, hosted in Parkway Bank Park (5501 Park Place) starting this weekend. The series brings some great entertainment for family-friendly, outdoor Thursday-night concerts (along with select performances on holiday weekends) featuring classic cover acts and outdoor food and drink tents. The concerts kick off at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 30, with Dancing Queen and Libido Funk Circus. All other concerts are scheduled to run from 7 to 10 p.m., many with post-show fireworks displays; find more information at rosemont.com/thepark:

Homegrown battle of the bands

With four bands vying for the last slot at the 9th Annual Homegrown Arts and Music Festival this summer, founder Aaron Williams is leaving the decision up to fans and a panel of judges. Friday, May 28, Lost Pyramids, Jacks and Atoms, the Robert Hynes Band and Nowhere Days will play their hearts out at the Road to Homegrown Battle of the Bands, hoping to earn that final slot at the fest. The battle will be hosted by Williams, who will also warm up the event with a solo set of original music starting at 7:30. Support local music and get a taste of what Homegrown's all about before hitting the event Saturday, July 31, at BaseCamp Pub.

'Mister Kelly's' doc Chicago premiere

"Live at Mister Kelly's," a feature-length documentary about the legendary Chicago nightclub which opened to anchor Rush Street in the 1950s, will be screened to national audiences this fall. But Chicago-area WTTW viewers will get a special one-hour sneak preview of the film this weekend. Featuring clips of jazz and comedy performances aside interviews, the documentary chronicles the free speech, civil rights and women's liberation movements and the ways they influenced the art of the moment. The premiere will be broadcast at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, and will be replayed at 6 a.m. Friday, May 28, 12:30 a.m. Saturday, May 29, and 10 p.m. Sunday, May 30, on WTTW, Channel 11. Cold Waves IX on sale

Weekend passes for Cold Waves IX - the ninth edition of the long-running industrial music festival at Chicago's Metro (3730 N. Clark St., Chicago) and the adjoining Smartbar and GMan Tavern Sept. 24-26 - have sold out, but single-day passes are now available. The festival, a showcase for industrial, goth, darkwave and metal, features headliners Stabbing Westward, industrial/hip-hop trio CLIPPING. and Front 242, along with a full lineup including Consolidated, Youth Code, Actors, Bootblacks, Provoker, Odonis Odonis, Zoltar and more.

Riot Fest updates

Riot Fest's daily lineups are out, and single-day tickets are flying since going on sale Friday. Sunday's passes, headlined by Nine Inch Nails, are already sold out, but tickets are still available for Friday, Sept. 17, with The Smashing Pumpkins and Saturday, Sept. 18, headlined by Run the Jewels. Organizers also announced the additions of Dropkick Murphys, Rancid, Machine Gun Kelly, Bleached, 3OH!3, Bearings, The Bronx, Citizen, FACS, Four Year Strong, Blackstarkids, Skating Polly, Chicago's own Knuckle Puck and more to the weekend festival, set for Sept. 17-19 in Chicago's Douglass Park at Roosevelt Road and California Avenue.
