Glen Ellyn's Re:new Project does it again with a new leather Trapezio Tote
For over 10 years, in a modish workshop off Main Street in Glen Ellyn, Re:new Project has been like the little engine that could, cranking out trendy one-of-a-kind products made solely by refugee women.
Their newest product launch does it again - but this time in leather. And the all-leather Trapezio Tote doesn't disappoint.
Crafted from donated leather pieces, this mid-size tote makes a statement no matter where you are going. Available in an array of colors - white, grey, mint green, orange and camel - it's your choice in what style to choose. With a snap closure and three cotton interior pockets, this tote is as multi-functional as it is a conversation starter - a fabulous design for post pandemic trips to, well, anywhere and everywhere.
But here's the thing - it's not just the design you are purchasing; it's the process.
Re:new Project receives donated textiles from large corporations as well as fabric swatches from local decorators. Then, a team of refugee artisans designs each product one at a time. How's that for intentional fashion design?
In the case of the Trapezio Tote, the leather pieces end up squared or angled, short or long, giving each bag that one-of-a-kind Re:new look. You can see why people pay a hefty $250 for these beauties.
We all have choices about what we buy. This is a solid purchase that supports refugee women, recycling and fashion design. What could be better? Inside each bag is a signature tag that says it all - "handmade in the USA by a women who sought refuge here."
Add the bag's elegance and I'd say that about sums it up. Check it out at www.renewproject.org.
