Aurora man pleads guilty to sexually assaulting a child

An Aurora man was sentenced Thursday to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13.

Oscar O. Rojas, 44, of the 0-100 block of Jackson Place, pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal sexual assault.

According to Assistant Kane County State's Attorney Lori Schmidt, Rojas assaulted the child multiple times between 2007 and 2019. He knew the victim.

Rojas will have to serve at least 85% of the sentence before being eligible for parole. He will receive credit for 707 days he has been in the Kane County jail since he was arrested.

He will have to register for life as a sex offender.

"This victim/survivor showed tremendous courage coming forward and disclosing years of abuse. She told an adult, who made a police report. Child predators are stopped when responsible adults listen, hear the disclosures and take action. We hope other victims of sexual abuse know that if they come forward and tell their story, we will listen and we will act," Schmidt said in a news release. Schmidt is the director of the Kane County Child Advocacy Center, which investigated the case.
