Montgomery firm to double public gifts to Aurora food pantry

The Lakone Co. of Montgomery will double public gifts to the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry.

Alia Rivera, Pantry communications director, said Lakone will donate $2 for each dollar from the public. "The match is open until it is met, which we anticipate will happen within four weeks. However, a pledge can count toward the match."

Rivera suggested a monthly gift of $14 to feed people in need. "In 2020," she said, "the Aurora Food Pantry increased weekly distribution by a staggering 400 percent due to the COVID-19 crisis.

"This number represents a person, a family, a child, who would have gone hungry if not for the pantry. In addition to feeding the hungry, part of gifts will be used to help replace the pantry's roof.

"While the pantry continues to serve a dramatically increased number of families every week, it faces another challenge: the roof of the building is compromised. It has numerous leaks, is beyond patching, is years past its prime and must be replaced.

According to Rivera, "Gifts in any amount will make a difference for a struggling family and will ensure the pantry's precious food supply remains safe from water damage."
