Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church provides sweet treat surprises to local nurses

Members of the Community Outreach Ministry of Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in Huntley recently reached out to the community to acknowledge area nurses during National Nurses Week May 6-12.

With packages of "Smallcakes" cupcakes and other treats in a variety of flavors, the Rev. Mark Boster and committee members Bob and Carolyn Malm visited area hospitals, including Northwestern Medicine in Huntley and McHenry; and Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin to deliver the goodies in appreciation to nurses who have gallantly served the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sweet treats included a note that said, "Our heartfelt appreciation for your heroic and life saving work!"

"This was just one small, but important, token of appreciation we felt was necessary to thank the nurses of our community," said Bob Malm, who along with his wife, Carolyn, personally delivered 40 cupcakes to the surprise of recipients at Advocate Sherman Hospital.

Malm was also appreciative to the Smallcakes Cupcakery and Creamery in South Barrington, which was very generous in assisting Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church in this effort.

The Community Outreach Ministry is active in reaching out to the greater Huntley area. It sponsors several events, including the successful Food Drives to benefit the Grafton Food Pantry in Huntley, which serves individuals from Huntley, Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and Lakewood.

The next Drive-through Food Drive at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church is scheduled for June 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the church parking lot, 10805 Main St.

Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, under the faith leadership of Pastor Mark Boster, has served the faith community in Huntley for over 20 years. Visit www.sotp.org.
