Access energy savings through community solar

I have had an interest in accessing solar energy to power my home for years. But installing rooftop solar panels isn't always straightforward. My steep and shaded roof was not suitable for a solar panel installation and even if it were, installation would require a significant upfront investment. Recently I became aware that Illinois has a great option, community solar, that allows everyone to support renewable solar energy. Community solar farm subscriptions allow Illinois residents to easily take advantage of solar savings with zero installation costs.

I am currently a subscriber through Clearway Community Solar to the output produced by a solar farm they have constructed near the Kishwaukee River in Winnebago County. My subscription helps send clean solar energy to our local electric grid and guarantees energy savings on my monthly electric bill from the standard rates charged for electricity (but not a discount on the delivery charge).

Enrolling in community solar is an easy way for me to support Illinois' transition to local, renewable energy without having to install a solar array on my shaded, steep roof. And I also will save money. I urge you to join me in becoming a subscriber to community solar. More information can be found at the Illinois Shines website, established on behalf of the Illinois Power Agency, an independent state government agency, regarding the community solar program.

Community solar is part of an energy shift Illinois needs and I hope more people in our community see the light.
