U.S. suffering from loss of biblical roots

I continue to be frustrated each time I read about the increasing controls on Americans due to the COVID pandemic. Since the beginning of civilization governments have looked for ways to control the masses. Often using harsh methods to maintain control.

It was only a short 244 years ago that a courageous group of men constructed a new kind of government. The Founding Father's believed in self-government. These individuals believed that a citizen's rights came from God and not from man.

These gentlemen were convinced that a people governed by their trust in God would be a people who were governed by a God conscience from within.

To illustrate, in her early years, America's practice of trusting God as the final word on matters was demonstrated in personal and public affairs. Many parental rules came from the Bible. In the courtroom, while testifying or while taking the Oath of Office, Americans were asked to place their hands on the Bible to confirm their honesty. To a great degree, doctors, business owners, and public-school teachers referred to biblical principles as their common source of right and wrong in their daily decision making.

Unfortunately, most people resented being held accountable to a Holy God. When a few powerful anti-Christian entities pushed for the separation of church and state, many did not complain. As our God conscientiousness decreased, lawlessness increased. Among other afflictions, the United States eventually became a nation with the highest incarceration rate in the world.

And so, the first successful self-governing nation in world history became a totalitarian state where the citizens were controlled by the iron fist of government from without rather than by God from within.

I wonder if it is too late to ever again be "One Nation Under God?"
