Stunning taxpayer abuse

To be clear, while I believe teacher unions are harmful to children/students, I strongly support teachers and administrators. I should also point out, while I no longer have children in District 25 or 214, I'm grateful for their wonderful educations and will always support tax referendums to better schools in the area. That said, l'm stunned, amazed and angered at Superintendent Schuler's "total compensation package."

While I can almost convince myself that an annual salary of over $335,000 this year (4.5% more in the following years) is reasonable, as is four weeks vacation, it is unacceptable to add an additional $43,000 in an annual annuity, taxpayers picking up his TRS contribution (isn't the annuity and TRS contribution double dipping?), $9,600 in an annual car stipend and, wait for it, 37 sick days. Over seven weeks of sick days.

In other words, Mr. Schuler is not contractually engaged over 21% of the year. And that's not even counting his long driving trips for "professional leave."

When people like me, who are so supportive of public school education, are so angered by this type of taxpayer abuse, it time for "the system" to look in the mirror and understand taxpayer anger.
