Ross: Cubs' Rizzo asked for another turn on mound

The comedy of Anthony Rizzo on the pitchers mound stretched into a second day.

When David Ross came out to the mound in the seventh inning of Thursday's win in Atlanta, he signaled to the bullpen, meaning Andrew Chafin. Rizzo stood nearby and pointed to himself.

"Rizz asked, 'Do you want me?' That's what he asked me," Ross said with a laugh. "I was not in the laughing mood at the moment. I just said, 'No, I don't. You're down today.' So we brought in a much better lefty. I know (Rizzo's) got good numbers, but I trust the other guy in that moment."

In a 10-0 loss the previous night, the Cubs used three position players to pitch the seventh and eighth innings. Rizzo faced three batters and memorably struck out Freddie Freeman, last season's National League MVP.
