Cubs' Bryant doesn't mind long stint in outfield
Cubs manager David Ross used an unusual outfield alignment Friday in Cincinnati, with Kris Bryant in right field, Nico Hoerner in left and Jake Marisnick in center against Reds lefthander Wade Miley.
This was Bryant's ninth straight game in the outfield. The combination of Joc Pederson's wrist injury and Matt Duffy's productive hitting has led to the position switch.
"I don't know. I didn't have any games in the outfield in spring training," Bryant said about playing outfield this week. "The first mistake I make out there, I'll make sure to let Rossy know that it is his fault for not getting me any work out there. But a lot of times when I am going out there, I just try to rely on me being me, using my legs, athleticism to make the routine play.
"I've played there before and I am comfortable there, so whatever we've got to do while Joc is down or people need a day, I can go out there. I love to play center, rightfield, third, first - I'm all-in for it all."
Ironically, Ross told reporters during training camp he didn't anticipate using Bryant in the outfield much this season, but plans can change.\
