Chicago area Asian leadership shared deepest condolences to the Sikh community

On April 15th, 2021 a horrible mass shooting occurred at a FedEx facility in Indianapolis. Among the victims, at least 4 of them were members of the Sikh community. Many of the targeted workers were Sikh immigrants. Media outlets and law enforcement agencies Confirm 8 people dead and several fatally injured.

The FedEx facility shooting was the latest in a spate of at least seven deadly mass shootings in the United States over the past month.

Majority of the workers at FedEx facility in Indianapolis are South Asian Americans, mostly employees from the Sikh community.

Many Chicago Area Asian Community pays deepest condolences to the Sikh community. Many of them Posted messages on social media. Many of them called elected leaders and civic and faith leaders to take serious steps against xenophobia, racism, and anti-religious hate.

Mr. Ali Khan, President and Founder of Urdu Semaj Chicago, shared his condolences and said, "Our heartfelt condolences to the Sikh community in this difficult time! We support and join in spirit in your efforts to comfort them."

Raja Yaqoob, a leader of the Pakistani community said, "My prayers are with the Sikh community that has so often been targeted by haters since many years."

Khurram Syed, A community campaigner leader & activist in Chicagoland said, "My condolences to the families of all victims and the Sikh community for the loss of their members at the latest incident in Indianapolis. This act will go down as one of the worst in the history of our country where all religions have equality and respect.

We all need to work together to control this act of terrorism in our country by forcing lawmakers to control the Gun sales. Also educating the community with Mental Health programs. Normalization of violence will only control if we all respect, every race in this country equally.

So sorry to say, but America is in a crisis. We all need to come together to address this deadly act and condemn. Praying for healing for all the deceased families."

A Kashmiri Activist Yasin Chohan said, "Sadly, it's totally disappointing and devastating to see innocent Sikhs aren't safe anywhere. Whether it's in India or America."

"I am shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of those killed in Indianapolis during this holy time of Vaisakha. May all those souls of your community and all other communities that were taken away in an untimely manner rest in eternal peace." said Member of Muslim Community of Bolingbrook, Illinois Saud Gazanfer said.

Altaf Bukhari, Founder and President at A.B Entertainment said," My heart goes out to the Sikh community when I watch the news this week. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims of this horrific violence. Many of our friends in the Sikh community are feeling alone, and wondering why this tragedy happened?"

Naperville resident Shafeek Abubaker said. "Our hearts go out to the Sikh community and we are all deeply saddened when such crimes occur. No matter class, faith, creed, or caste, we are all one."
