Fighting for change will fix our planet

I am a recent graduate of Glenbrook South High School. I graduated during the pandemic and have started my first year of College at Miami University from home. co-majoring in sustainability means I learn a lot about global climate change, but involvement in Sunrise, the national movement for climate justice, allows me to fight for changes as well.

I believe that we need to have a Green New Deal that guarantees people good jobs to address the climate crisis, end the COVID recession and help those who have been impacted by climate disasters. One of the most important things I have learned from my sustainability classes is that making changes, voting on legislation and fighting for things that help people and fix our system in turn will be positive for our planet.

When we create jobs that provide people with good work, where they can repair communities, this will help stop the climate crisis. Not only this, but in the midst of a pandemic where many have been negatively impacted, providing work will help our economy recover from COVID. Lastly, we can directly help people who have suffered due to climate disasters like flooding, storms and wildfires by having jobs to rebuild, strengthen and protect those communities.

Supporting good jobs for all means we ALL will be able to start building toward a brighter and better future today.
