Missing the point?

There's been a huge national backlash against the new voting restrictions imposed in Georgia, especially about restrictions against giving food and water to people standing in voting lines. While I agree that the new law is essentially a callous attempt to suppress minority turnout, it seems to me that the brouhaha about dispensing food and water overlooks a much greater issue. Why should people have to wait in long lines to vote in the first place? We're shocked and appalled when we see that in elections in Third World countries. It would seem we can do better in America.
