Virtual discussion with state Rep. Stava-Murray to focus on police reform bill

The League of Women Voters of Naperville is hosting a virtual discussion next week with state Rep. Anne Stava-Murray about Illinois' new criminal justice reform legislation.

Stava-Murray, a Naperville Democrat, was a sponsor of House Bill 3653 recently signed by Gov. J.B. Pritzker. During the Zoom conversation, scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, she is expected to touch on the process of passing the legislation, the timeline for implementation and the impact of potential trailer bills, according to a news release.

Topics also could include the rationale behind eliminating cash bail and what can be done to ensure adequate funding for communities to reach compliance.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. To sign up, visit rebrand.ly/96m17lg.
