Issues don't hold merit

Now is not the time for a change in leadership as Lombard strives to get back on track after a challenging year. It is disheartening to see a sitting trustee that could have retained his seat for a third term and later run in 2025 for village president raise issues that simply don't hold merit.

Giagnorio's opponent speaks of flood control, streetlights, fencing, new buildings at village complex and the never-ending quest to improve the downtown. Educated voters need to know the facts on these so-called game changing issues as well as ask how are taxpayers expected to pay for these big ideas?

Under President Giagnorio's leadership, critical actions were taken on flood control topped with the recent acquisition of the 655 N. Main property.

The structure will be demolished and replaced with open space dedicated to stormwater management. Streetlights are a commendable want, but it comes down to not only how are they paid for but realizing the village is already on top of state/federal funding programs for additions while code dictates their inclusion in new developments.

The guidelines and code relative to six-foot fences on corner/side yards was recently updated and approved by the village board while maintaining strict line-of-sight requirements at driveways.

A new village complex would be great but with the ongoing financial challenges with declining sales tax revenue and need for infrastructure updates/upgrades does the village have the economic resources for such a wish list item?

On the downtown front groundbreaking is set for the Lilac Station project. Village staff works diligently to improve the downtown core but realizes it takes the village population as a whole to support downtown to see downtown thrive.

For true leadership and fiscal responsibility going forward Lombardians need to reelect Keith Giagnorio for a third term as Village President.
