Suspect sought in Geneva shooting out of a vehicle

Police are searching for a vehicle driver suspected of shooting and slightly injuring a passenger in another car late Friday night on the 600 block of South First Street in Geneva, authorities said.

According to the 30-year-old shooting victim and the vehicle's 27-year-old driver, both of Aurora, the car with the shooter pulled up next to their car at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of First Street and Elizabeth Place in Geneva. The suspect displayed a handgun and shot it, inflicting a grazing wound to the passenger in the other car, who was treated at the scene by Geneva Fire Department personnel.

The suspect, driving a dark-colored Volkswagen Jetta, was last seen headed west on a nearby side street. Geneva police searched the area but were unable to find the vehicle.

The shooting remains under investigation by Geneva police, but officials said they do not believe there is a threat to the general public. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Geneva Police Department.
