Beyond the vaccine whining

OK, Boomers, enough of your whining and blaming others because you haven't yet been able to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine or visit your grandchildren.

It grates on this Boomer's frayed nerves to read ranting letters to the editors from cranky, complaining Boomers who leave the impression that we're a bunch of bigoted, bitter MAGA losers.

Most of us Boomers are vibrant, well-informed and proactive. Our early activism resulted in tremendous advances in civil rights, an end to the Vietnam War, Earth Day and the formation of the Environmental Protection Agency, Roe v. Wade and many other achievements which moved our nation toward a more perfect union.

We Boomers were given the opportunity to realize the American Dream. With jobs providing health insurance and employer-matched 401(k) plans we were able to enjoy home ownership, send our children to college and save for retirement.

Now that we're receiving our hard-earned Social Security and Medicare entitlements, many of us Boomers are not hunkered in watching grouchy right-wing pundits spewing misinformation and conspiracy theories. We're busy serving our communities and country as election judges, literacy volunteers, food pantry workers, tutors ... and speaking out against inequality, injustice and intolerance as we work toward assuring a better future for our grandchildren.

Most of us Boomers are resilient, optimistic and energized. We'll follow CDC guidelines and get our vaccines when they soon become available. We are OK Boomers.
