Pride in schools

I was so proud of my friend and colleague, Ms. Megan O'Neill and was excited to read about her in the Daily Herald last week. I am also very proud of another friend and colleague, Dean Deb (Scerbicke), who was recently featured in this paper for receiving the Arlington Heights Golden Apple Award.

I work with amazing teachers, staff and administration who have all come together since mid-August to successfully open the doors of Saint Viator High School in Arlington Heights to our students. Last spring, during the lockdown, we experienced what many teachers and students are still experiencing with fully remote learning and it was difficult not seeing the students in a real classroom each day. As of today, our school has been open to in-person learning for 98 days.

With a wonderful school nurse, Mrs. Pamela Kelly, who endlessly tracks possible COVID exposures and ensures all mitigation strategies are followed, as well as our fantastic maintenance staff, who always keeps us supplied with cleaner, gloves and paper towels, our school has been a success story during this pandemic.

As a classroom teacher, I love going to work each morning to teach kids for another day.
