Road improvements planned in Nunda Township
The intersection of Route 176 and Nish Road is on track to be improved now that the Nunda Township Road District and Illinois Department of Transportation reached an agreement to make improvements aimed at improving safety and reduce traffic congestion there.
This project will consist of installing traffic signals at the intersection in unincorporated Burtons Bridge and adding left-turn lanes on the north, south and west legs of the intersection, as well as a right-turn lane on the north end.
In addition, a proposed "T" intersection is planned for Riverside Drive and Wright Road, as well as pedestrian and bicyclist accommodations and drainage improvements.
The project is included in IDOT's multiyear proposed highway improvement program, according to a news release.
Under the agreement, the Nunda Township Road District will be responsible for $36,448 out of the $3 million cost, while IDOT will be responsible for the construction of this project.
IDOT will use funds from the Federal National Highway Performance Program to pay for the project, according to the release.
"As your highway commissioner, I aggressively pursue any and all funding opportunities on behalf of my constituents to make all Nunda Township Roads as safe as possible," Nunda Township Road Commissioner Mike Lesperance said in a statement.
The project is scheduled for spring 2021.
