No injuries reported when car collides with train in Wheeling

No injuries have been reported in a collision between a car and a Metra train near Wheeling early Friday morning.

Wheeling police said the crash occurred at the crossing of the eastbound lanes of Palatine Frontage Road.

The car was unoccupied at the time of the crash, authorities reported.

There is also no crossing where the car was struck, as it appears the vehicle missed a turn on the frontage road and careened through a field onto the tracks, according to images from the scene.

The collision occurred just after 7 a.m. and inbound trains on Metra's North Central Service line were stopped for some time, but passengers on that train have started being transferred to another inbound train.

Service on the line is expected to see significant delays.
