Naperville-area man facing weapon charges

A 21-year-old man is facing felony weapon charges after Naperville police found a firearm in his motel room, authorities said.

Yusuf M. Syed, who lives in an unincorporated area near Naperville, was stopped by officers about 6:45 p.m. Monday for a failure to signal traffic violation, according to a news release from Naperville police. Detectives found a small amount of cannabis in the vehicle.

The investigation led to a search of the motel room in which Syed was staying, where officers found a gun that he was not allowed to possess, police said.

Syed was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, officials said. Records show he is being held in the DuPage County jail.
