Behind the Curtain: The March Movie of the Month

'News of the World'

Of all the movies we've highlighted with our monthly picks, "News of the World" offers what may be the most unique view of newspapering: Tom Hanks plays a Civil War veteran who tours the West dramatically reading stories out of the newspapers to crowds of local uninformed townspeople who pay 10 cents apiece for the experience. His livelihood underscores an exquisite message woven into the script, as the newsreader takes in an orphan played poignantly by Helena Zengel. Now playing on several platforms including Amazon Prime, Vudu and Fandango and some local theaters.
