Elgin man pleads guilty to sex abuse of girl

An Elgin man pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a 13-year-old girl.
Erik M. Valentine, 35, of the 500 block of North Aldine Street, agreed to a sentence of 24 months of sex-offender registration.
He will have to register for life as a sex offender.
Charges of possession of child pornography were dropped.
Kane County Assistant State's Attorney Matt Rodgers told Judge David Kliment that Valentine admitted to Elgin police that he had met the girl online in January 2020. They met in person in the summer.
Valentine is to have no contact with the victim, and no unsupervised contact with anyone under the age of 18. He is to have no access to pornographic materials, and court services is to monitor his internet use.
