Woman arrested for obstructing justice in Muncie shootings

MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) - A teenager who reported the fatal shootings of three Michigan men in a Muncie apartment has been arrested for obstruction of justice, authorities said.

Juniyah Yvette Simmons, 18, was arrested by Muncie police early Saturday. She was released from the Delaware County Jail later that day, The Star Press reported.

Jami Brown, a Muncie police investigator, wrote in an affidavit that Simmons 'œlied multiple times'ť with 'œrepeated inconsistencies'ť in the information she provided to authorities.

Simmons' address is listed in Anderson on court documents, but the affidavit said she was living in the apartment where the three men from the Detroit area were killed.

Simmons' call reporting the shootings was placed from Anderson, the affidavit said.

'œSimmons apologized for not being truthful and admitted she delayed the homicide investigation significantly,'ť Brown wrote.

Authorities also allege that after finding the victims' bodies, Simmons 'œremoved several items of evidence'ť and took them to Anderson.

Those items, not specified in the affidavit, were apparently recovered when 'œa search warrant was executed in that jurisdiction,'ť Brown said.

Simmons reported the shootings at the Elgin Manor Apartments complex around 11:35 a.m. Friday.

In the apartment, authorities found the bodies of Adrian Demarlo George Jr., 30; Devonte Earl Hollis, 25, and Terence Thomas, 27.

It wasn't clear whether Simmons has an attorney who might comment on her behalf.
