Elgin History Museum hosting online event with African American storyteller Linda Gorham

The Elgin History Museum will host a virtual event titled "African American Heroes and Sheroes," presented by Linda Gorham, at 2 p.m. Sunday.

By looking at her own family's dreams and goals, Gorham shares stories of Black men and women who broke color barriers and had noteworthy accomplishments - often in spite of difficult circumstances, the museum said in a news release. Gorham incorporates story, music, photographs, personal narrative, quotes and historical facts to commemorate their achievements.

For the past 30 years, Gorham has engaged audiences internationally with poignant and humorous family stories, interactive folk tales, notably twisted fairy tales, and riveting, well-researched historical stories. Each performance is infused with her unconventional humor and her signature "sophisticated attitude."

The event will be held over Zoom. Register at the Elgin History Museum's website at elginhistory.org.
