Cook library hosting Historic Highways of Illinois program
Historic Highways of Illinois is the topic of a virtual program at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 22, hosted by the Cook Memorial Public Library District.
Beginning with the National Road in the early 1800s, through the hard roads of the 1900s, the program will show how Illinois pulled itself out of the mud and became a transportation hub. Early settlers in the Illinois territory used trails blazed by Indigenous tribes to cross the tall-grass prairie in the Illinois territory. The trails were named for their destinations, like Green Bay and Milwaukee or prominent early residents.
