Aurora man charged with Sunday carjacking

An Aurora man accused of stealing a car at 1 p.m. Sunday, then crashing it in to another vehicle now faces a vehicular hijacking charge, police said Tuesday.

Bail was set at $100,000 Monday for Jesse Adrian Valenciano, 41, of the 2300 block of Marigold Court, according to the Kane County jail's website.

Aurora police said officers were called to the 1000 block of Claim Street for a report of a carjacking Sunday afternoon.

The driver of the car had stepped out of the vehicle to drop something off at a house, while a passenger waited inside, police said. Valenciano then got into the driver's seat, told the passenger to get out, and drove off, according to police.

He later crashed the car into an occupied vehicle near Liberty and Trask streets. He ran away, but a victim of the carjacking chased him and tackled him.

In addition to vehicular hijacking, Valenciano is charged with receiving, possessing or selling a stolen motor vehicle and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.

His next court date is Friday, before Kane County Judge John Barsanti.
