New GOP chief doesn't offer realistic alternative

The lead says it all: "Illinois is a disaster and I hope to help save it." Just what we need - another Republican savior.

The new Illinois Republican Party Chair Don Tracy's Guest View on Feb. 10 paints an all-too familiar-sounding picture: everything is a disaster that is not their fault but can only be fixed by trusting the path they will lay out.

Tracy's column is filled with trigger words aimed at the cancel culture: "financial ruin," "political ruling class," "incompetent state government," "indoctrinating children," "rioters and looters ransacking cities" and the like. His solutions are merely hollow platitudes without the slightest hint of what the solution is or how to implement it.

I am grateful to the Daily Herald for running this column and I'm thankful to Mr. Tracy for showing his colors so vividly. As an independent, who recognizes many actual problems in the state and is aware of major failings in Democratic leadership, I am deeply disappointed that the Republican Party has once again chosen not to present a realistic alternative.
