Elk Grove sponsors workshops for business leaders

Elk Grove Village is partnering with the Enclave Learning and Earning Center to offer a yearlong series of weekly professional development workshops for local businesses.

The Village of Elk Grove will underwrite the course for village-based business leaders who are looking to rethink their business strategies with an eye toward growth and economic recovery amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The Makers Wanted Workshops are an investment in the future of our business community," said Trustee Sam Lissner, chairman of the village's Business Leaders Forum. "By supporting professional development among entrepreneurs, we are strengthening the capacity for innovation and resiliency in our own backyard."

The pandemic has changed the way customers, owners and entrepreneurs think of business. Online sales have exploded while traditional brick and mortar has stagnated. Uncertainty of this magnitude requires individuals to learn more about themselves, others and the markets they serve. A successful economic recovery beyond COVID-19 requires fresh and new thinking skills.

"This is an outstanding opportunity for local business owners to meet, collaborate, grow their skills, and potentially do business with one another. Strengthening local connections allows businesses to shorten supply lines, enhance local sales, learn cutting-edge leadership techniques, and grow business revenues" said Joshua Grodzin, director of Business Development for Elk Grove Village.

"I am not aware of another suburban municipality that would go to these lengths to ensure that business leaders and entrepreneurs in their community have access to cutting-edge instruction," said Jeff Taylor, CEO of Craft Technologies in Elk Grove Village.

"It's really just one more example of the innovative work they do every day to provide substantive and meaningful support to Elk Grove Village business owners and leaders."

The online workshops will take place every Thursday morning, except holidays. Additionally, a select cohort of leaders will meet in-person at Enclave Building on the second Thursday of each month. The on-site cohort will participate in the online workshop, then continue in-person with a deeper dive. The cohort will hear brief presentations related to recent workshop topics, and then break into work groups for facilitated peer-to-peer discussion about implementing key lessons learned.

"Better thinking fuels better performance. Enclave guides individuals to bring to their bottom lines more of their best thinking, while identifying risks of cognitive biases, counterproductive emotional behaviors, and other possible impediments to success," said, John R. Dallas, Jr., founding CEO of Enclave Learning and Earning Center and its Makers WantedWorkshops. "Much of the coursework, coaching, and collaboration we provide allows leaders to see things from different perspectives, views which are instrumental in helping them chart a better course forward."
