Prosecutors may seek life sentence for man charged in Beach Park double homicide

A Lake County grand jury indicted a 34-year-old Waukegan man Wednesday on murder charges for the shooting deaths of a Beach Park couple, and the Lake County state's attorney's office announced Thursday that prosecutors may seek a life sentence if he is convicted.

Timothy D. Triplett Jr., of the 2100 block of Georgetown Lane, is charged in the deaths of Carlos Rodas Perez, 52, and Mercedes Rodas, 49. The couple were found shot in their garage Dec. 8.

Triplett has been held in the Lake County jail on $5 million bail since his arrest in January. He is set to appear again before a judge Monday morning.

Lake County deputies responded to the couple's home on the 10000 block of West Wadsworth Road at 9:40 p.m. Dec. 8. The deputies tried lifesaving measures, but both Perez and Rodas were pronounced dead at the scene, according to officials.

In a news release Thursday, prosecutors said information in the indictments led them to consider a natural life sentence for Triplett if he is convicted of the crime
