Chafin reportedly returning to Cubs' bullpen

Andrew Chafin didn't show much after he was acquired by the Cubs from the Diamondbacks at the Aug. 31 trade deadline last season.

On the injured list with a sprained finger until Sept. 20, Chafin was limited to 4 relief appearances. The left-hander gave up 1 run in 3 innings.

The Cubs obviously saw enough, and they've reportedly signed Chafin to a one-year contract. MLB.com reports the 30-year-old reliever agreed to a $2.25 million deal with a $5.25 million option (and $500,000 buyout) for the 2021 season.

Chafin gave up 6 runs in 6⅔ innings in 11 games with Arizona before being traded to the Cubs.

He was a steady relief pitcher for the Diamondbacks from 2014-19, and he gives Cubs manager David Ross a needed left-handed option out of the bullpen.
