Police chase suspects after report of aggravated assault in Des Plaines
A Des Plaines resident reported people were striking their front door with a shovel, but when police arrived the offenders fled the scene, authorities said.
While responding to the 400 Block of Prairie Avenue for a report of an aggravated assault at 2:11 p.m., Des Plaines police officers were notified of people striking the caller's door and potentially displaying a gun. The offenders left in a vehicle headed east on Prairie Avenue, according to a news release from the Des Plaines Police Department.
Police located the vehicle and tried to make a traffic stop. The vehicle abruptly pulled over and a female passenger got out, then the car kept going, the news release said. Officers apprehended the woman who got out and recovered a handgun from her, while others continued to follow the vehicle, which refused to stop. The police stopped following the vehicle due to traffic conditions and safety concerns, the news release said.
The police are investigating and it currently seems to be an isolated incident, with no ongoing threat to the community.
