So far, so good for Buffalo Grove's snow removal changes

Buffalo Grove's snow response is different this year, and it wasn't long before it was put to the test.

Cost-cutting measures last year eliminated about five positions from the town's public works staff, leading officials to contract out snow removal for village facilities, as well as the Metra and Pace parking lots.

Plowing of village streets and cul-de-sacs remains the responsibility of the public works department.

"That has always been the priority, that we have full control over that," Village Manager Dane Bragg said.

So how does Bragg rate the response to the recent snowstorms?

"We are happy with the condition of the streets," he said at Monday's village board meeting. "I think we're still modifying and adapting. We have been soliciting feedback from residents in terms of where things are working and where they are not."

The village also kept residents up to date over social media about the progress made on clearing the roads.

Looking back and putting the event in perspective, Bragg said, "We had about 24 hours of continuous snowfall, and while the cycle times were longer than usual, we were not at a point where we had impassible streets at any time."
