Beach Park man charged in Glencoe attempted carjacking

A Lake County man was charged with attempted carjacking in federal court for trying to violently steal a car at a golf course in Glencoe last summer, authorities said.

Zayveon Thomas, 19, of Beach Park tried to steal a 2018 Lexus IS300 from someone in the parking lot of a golf course in Glencoe July 2, according to a news release from the Northern District of Illinois' U.S. attorney's office. Thomas was charged with one count of attempted carjacking, which is punishable by up to 15 years in federal prison, the news release said.

Thomas is currently in custody, and his federal court hearing hasn't been scheduled yet, the release said.
