Holmstad residents build, donate desks for kids learning remotely

A group of residents at Covenant Living at the Holmstad in Batavia decided to use their talents in the wood shop to build 20 desks for students who continue to attend classes remotely in the community.

The six men working on this project spent about four weeks cutting, assembling and staining the desks made out of pine.

“We realized not every student has a dedicated space where they can complete their school work, and as off-site learning continues during the pandemic, we decided to do something about that,” said Dave Anderson, Covenant Living at the Holmstad resident.

“This is happening all over the country, and we're happy that we are able to help at least 20 local students in this way.”

The senior living community contacted the Batavia United Way and asked for its help in finding homes for the desks.

The organization worked with contacts within Batavia Unit District 101, and each desk was donated to a student who is experiencing challenges at home or financial hardships.
