Helen Plum Library zoning approval

Lombard officials unanimously approved rezoning and sign ordinances to allow for a new Helen Plum Library building during a virtual village board meeting Thursday.

The two-story, 50,000-square-foot facility is budgeted at $27.8 million and is to be located at 401-425 S. Main St. The site is currently home to a shuttered Mr. Z's supermarket and a professional building.

The purchase of the land was contingent upon the library getting zoning approval from the village. The current library building at 110 W. Maple St. is to remain open while construction progresses on the new building, which is slated to open in fall 2022.
