Bulls' Donovan say he doesn't understand NBA's contact tracing rules

Bulls coach Billy Donovan said he's getting plenty of feedback from the league office about pandemic updates, via the Bulls medical staff.

But he talked about the frustration of understanding the contact tracing rules. The Bulls lost Lauri Markkanen and Ryan Arcidacono for seven games because they sat near Chandler Hutchison at dinner in Washington. While other teams have had players test positive within 24 hours after playing in games.

"I think the thing that we're all trying to figure out is when somebody does test positive, the contact tracing, how does that work?" Donovan said. "I don't understand, for some reason when players are together on the court, it doesn't seem like that maybe puts guys in as much harm as people having meals together. So there's a lot of things I don't totally understand.

"Like I said, you wake up every morning and you don't know what your team is going to look like and you hope everybody's healthy and safe, and then you just try to plan out the day on who's available and what you can do to try to help the group get better and improve."

The experience in Washington was the Bulls' second brush with contact tracing. When Noah Vonleh tested positive in preseason, Tomas Satoransky and Devon Dotson were sidelined for 10 days. Satoransky is back in quarantine after a positive COVID test.
