Mundelein man who died in Antioch township crash identified

Lake County authorities identified the 56-year-old Mundelein man who died after sustaining injuries in a two-car rollover crash Saturday evening in Antioch Township.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said Tuesday that Eleazar Hernandez died of traumatic head injuries. First responders arrived to the crash on Route 173, just west of Route 45, shortly after 5:30 p.m. and found two cars with "extensive damage," police said Saturday.

Officials said Hernandez was driving a Chevy Blazer and had just exited a nearby gas station and was heading west on Route 173. He attempted to make a U-turn and was struck by a westbound 1999 Lexus ES 300, officials said. The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County sheriff's office's technical crash investigations unit.
