Maddie's Mitten March to distribute winter gear Jan. 3 in North Aurora

Maddie's Mitten March will host a winter-gear giveaway with coats, hats and gloves from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 3, outside the North Aurora Police Department, 200 S. Airport Road. People in need are invited.

Maddie's Mitten March, a North Aurora-based nonprofit, will distribute gear from a converted passenger bus. Only one family at a time will be allowed on the bus and anyone entering the bus must wear a mask. If you don't have one, organizers will provide one.

The event is in place of the annual distribution that is held in partnership with Double Yolk Restaurant.

The nonprofit's mission is to collect clothing and monetary donations to provide winter clothing to needy Kane County residents.

Madeline Bozik of North Aurora, founder of Maddie's Mitten March and 2017 West Aurora High School graduate, is a mechanical engineering student at Bradley University in Peoria. She uses two buses to collect, hold and distribute donated coats, gloves, mittens, scarves, hats and boots.
