Chicago men charged in Naperville retail thefts
Two Chicago men are facing felony charges stemming from three retail thefts this week in Naperville, police said.
Donald Swope, 50, and Johnnie C. West, 54, were arrested Tuesday after authorities responded about 4:20 p.m. to a report of a retail theft at Jewel-Osco, 127 E. Ogden Ave., according to a news release from Naperville police.
An investigation linked the two men to three thefts of alcohol that occurred Sunday to Tuesday, resulting in a total loss of more than $5,100, officials said. The previous incidents were reported to police, but the suspects had fled before officers arrived.
Swope and West were each charged with burglary and two counts of retail theft, authorities said. Swope also was charged with possession of a controlled substance, and West was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
