Chicago activists offering $10K for tips in man's slaying
CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago anti-violence activists are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the fatal shooting of a man found dead on Christmas Eve near a hospital.
The reward announced Tuesday seeks tips in the killing of Cyle Hemphill, 25. An autopsy by the Cook County medical examiner's office found that Hemphill, who lived in Chicago's Beverly neighborhood, died from several gunshot wounds.
His body was found Dec. 24 slumped in the front passenger seat of a car parked outside a garage at the southern edge of an alley near Trinity Hospital on Chicago's South Side, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
Given the extent of Hemphill's injuries and the lack of damage to the garage, trash cans and fences, it's apparent that he did not drive himself into that alley, said Andrew Holmes, a crisis responder.
'œWith many cameras around here, around the hospital, we're hoping that some of the surveillance footage can catch the image,'ť he said during a news conference near where Hemphill was found.
Michael Airhart, a fellow crisis responder, said the reward offered on the behalf of Hemphill's family seeks information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death.
