Man charged in Christmas Day Aurora drive-by shooting
The Kane County sheriff's office announced the arrest of a 26-year-old Aurora man they said is responsible for a Christmas afternoon drive-by shooting near Aurora's south side.
Michael Corral, of the 1000 block of South Lincoln Avenue, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm at a person, aggravated assault by discharge of a firearm from a vehicle and possession of a firearm with a revoked firearm owner identification card, all felonies, according to the sheriff's office.
Corral's arrest stems from a shooting at 2 p.m. Christmas afternoon on the 1200 block of Fifth Street, in an unincorporated part of Kane County near Aurora.
Deputies said the intended target of the attack was not struck by the gunfire. Deputies interviewed the intended victim and a relative, and determined Corral had made threats to the intended victim's relative, sheriff's police said.
Investigators also located surveillance footage of the attack that captured images of the attacker and the suspect vehicle.
Later that evening, deputies located Corral's vehicle and initiated a traffic stop during which he was taken into custody, according to sheriff's police. Deputies also searched Corral's home and recovered additional evidence of the crime, authorities said.
Corral's bond has not yet been set, according to county records.
