Former Yankees relief pitcher Holder signs with Cubs
The Cubs agreed to a non-guaranteed contract with relief pitcher Jonathan Holder on Thursday.
The right-hander spent the his first five major-league seasons with the Yankees, going 10-6 with a 4.38 ERA in 157 games (2 starts).
New York's sixth-round draft pick in 2014 out of Mississippi State, the 27-year-old Holder was 3-0 with a 4.98 ERA in 18 appearances last season. He had 14 strikeouts and 11 walks in 21⅔ innings.
Holder's best year came in 2018, when he was 1-3 with a 3.14 ERA while striking out 60 and walking 19 over 66 innings.
For his career, Holder is 10-6 with 14 holds and a 4.38 ERA in 157 games.
The Cubs' 40-man roster stands at 36.
