Solar array installed on Naperville electric service center

A 160-panel fixed tilt axis solar array has been installed atop Naperville's electric service center, thanks largely to a $100,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity.

The funding helped support the planning, design, scheduling, permitting and construction of the photovoltaic system, which is expected to produce at least 63,500 kilowatt-hours per year - enough electricity to power seven homes, according to a news release from the city.

The solar panels will help offset energy costs for the 213,000-square-foot electric service center at 1392 Aurora Ave. Similar arrays have been installed on the municipal center and the public works building during the last two years, officials said.

Naperville offers rebates to residents who install solar panels on their homes. For information, visit www.naperville.il.us/solar-panel-guidelines.
