Elgin man accused of child molestation in Round Lake Heights

Round Lake Heights police arrested an Elgin man on several criminal sexual assault charges on Monday, authorities said Wednesday.

Ian Eric Lona, 37, of the 1400 block of Meyer Street, was charged with 10 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of sexual exploitation of a child for crimes committed over the span of 18 months, according to a news release.

Police said the now 8-year-old victim revealed the abuse as the Department of Children and Family Services investigated an unrelated case. Lona was in a relationship with the child's mother, authorities said.

Lona's bail was set at $500,000. He is due in court Thursday morning.
