Kitchen fire in Lake Zurich home causes $100,000 in damage

Lake Zurich Fire Department officials say a cooking mishap led to an extensive fire that caused $100,000 in damage to a house on the 1300 block of Marble Hill Drive late Sunday.

No injuries were reported in the blaze that occurred just before 10:40 p.m., fire officials said, but the home was left uninhabitable.

The fire began on the stovetop as one of the home's five residents was deep frying food, and spread to the hood and cabinets above the stove, officials said.

The residents of the two-story, single-family house were able to exit safely before firefighters arrived. They were all treated for smoke inhalation at the scene as a precaution, but none were taken to a hospital, fire officials said.

Upon arrival, firefighters reported smoke and fire present on the first floor. It took them about 15 minutes to have the blaze under control.

The kitchen suffered "heavy damage" and the fire also extend to home's second floor, officials said. The residents were able to find lodging with family members elsewhere.
