Columnist ignores the whole story
I understand when I read a column in a newspaper carrying the name of its author it is an expression of the author's opinion/ bias. It is with knowledge of that fact that I regularly read the columns of Mr. Byron York.
Thus, when I read his column and conservative bias hits me straight in the eye, I accept as his right of free speech. However, I find it not acceptable when those views are clearly at odds with what Paul Harvey famously proclaimed, "And now here is the rest of the story."
Mr. York's column Dec. 8 was a criticism of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's "stonewalling" of her holding up agreement with legislation riding monetary relief "for those in need" during the pandemic. York then went on presenting his case.
What I find objectionable is that he seems to have conveniently ignored facts the are a matter of record and destroys the strength of his position. What is ignored, or forgotten, is that a House-passed bill, led by Speaker Pelosi, providing about $3 billion in relief, has rested to this day on the desk of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell's desk since sometime in June. Yes, this is the same McConnell who stymied almost a year blocking President Obama's nominee for a vacancy on the Supreme Court and then found time to rush through President Trump's nominee for another such vacancy in a matter of days. But I digress, other than to say he then adjourned the Senate having "no time" to address legislation for pandemic relief funds.
Mr. York has all the right in the world to express his opinions, but I find it objectionable when he omits "the rest of the story."
