Fire damages home on Elgin's west side Wednesday
Fire damaged a home on Elgin's west side Wednesday morning.
Members of the Elgin Fire Department responded to the 200 block of Longview Drive just after 8 a.m. for a report of a possible structure fire.
Responding fire companies arrived in five minutes and found a two-story home with a fire in the basement. Crews deployed a hand line to extinguish the fire, which was brought under control about 10 minutes, officials said.
The home suffered moderate fire damage to the basement and smoke damage throughout the structure, according to fire officials.
No one was home when the fire started and there were no injuries. Fire officials said the home will require repairs before it will be habitable.
