Bulls' Carter says he's getting chance to show off versatility

Center Wendell Carter Jr. was hoping for a more versatile role this season after talking to new coach Billy Donovan. So far in practice, Carter says the thoughts have come to fruition.

"From the very first day I was seeing it," Carter said. "Today we got up and down a lot, a lot of 5-on-5. I was playing on the perimeter for the most part. It gives me the opportunity to either pop or roll on my screens, just depending on how the defense is playing us.

"So it's definitely been there. We've talked about it, we've watched film. I'm definitely playing really well-being the versatile player on the offensive end. I have no doubt that it's going to transfer into a game situation."

Carter thinks his ability to hit long-ranger jumpers, hidden for most of his two professional seasons, has a chance to open up the Bulls offense.

"It's something I've always been good at," Carter said. "The (opposing) big can't sit in the paint now. Just simply me taking those shots, I'm now on the scouting report that, 'Wendell Carter takes 3s, so we have to close out to him,' and stuff like that.

"So that will be nothing but open up driving lanes for Zach (LaVine), get Lauri (Markkanen) more 3s, open up driving lanes for Coby (White). So I feel like it's definitely going to help the team as a whole."
